Gassman Award Winners!

Congratulations to En-Chih Liu for winning the 2019 Gassman Award for an outstanding talk during the 3rd year graduate symposium: En-Chih spoke about this recently published E-CuAAC reaction: https://chem.umn.edu/news/four-students-earn-paul-and-gerda-gassman-awards

Angela Carlson was awarded an Honorable Mention for her outstanding presentation on Bromodomain inhibitors! Congrats Angela!

James Wins an Award!

Congratulations to senior undergrad James Cox, who won the ACS Division of Organic Chemistry Undergraduate Award in Organic Chemistry! This award is intended to recognize senior students who display a significant aptitude for organic chemistry and to encourage further interest in the field.  We're not in anyway surprised, because we are well aware of James' excellence in organic chemistry. Soon though, he will leave us to join the chemistry department at Princeton University! Congrats again James, and we wish you the best of luck in grad school!

A New Review!

Angela's review on the interesting literature surrounding the Winstein Rearrangement was just accepted! Way to go Angela! Writing reviews is a LOT of hard work, but it was definitely worth the effort.

En-Chih's Enantioselective Click!

En-Chih's many long hours of working on an enantioselective click reaction have finally paid off, because his paper was just accepted to JACS!

Way to go En-Chih! We're sure this is the first of many!

New Instrument Installed!

We got a brand new supercritical fluid chromatography system! It has a mass spec as well (electrospray ionization) so we could get enantiomeric ratios on crude material. How cool! Hopefully this will speed up research!

A New Postdoc!

Welcome to Juliana, our new post-doc! She completed her graduate work with Prof. Matt Cook at Queen's University in Belfast, then worked for Prof. Garret Moraski at the University of Montana in Bozeman. We're excited to have a new face in the lab!

A New Grant!

Our grant application titled "Attaining Selectivity for the Inhibition of Bromodomains" was funded by the American Cancer Societies Institutional Research Grant program! The grant is for $30,000 and it will focus on research optimizing the synthesis, potency, and selectivity of a compound discovered in the Pomerantz lab. Keep up the good work, Angela!

Our First Medicinal Chemistry Collaboration!

Congratulations to Angela, for her contribution to a paper in J. Med. Chem. in collaboration with the Pomerantz and Harki groups here at UMN, as well as the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute!
